Europe Online nabs Bicknell

Candace Johnson, CEO of Europe Online Investments, the owner and operator of the world’s first and largest Satellite Internet Provider, has announced that Marcus Bicknell, a board director of Europe Online, has joined the company in an executive capacity. Marcus will bring his satellite, internet and marketing skills to bear on directing the sales and marketing of Europe Online's high-speed satellite internet service. This includes internet sales to consumers (acquisition and retention), marketing, and partnerships with cable operators, satellite TV companies and manufacturers of video cards and USB boxes for PCs across Europe. He will also support EOL's senior management in the joint venture with BT for developing EOL's satellite internet service world wide.
Marcus managed Genesis and worked for CBS and A&M Records in the 70s, then with Thorn EMI Cable. He was founder Commercial Director of Luxembourg based ASTRA in 1986 which still dominates direct-to-home satellite television to Europe. After 4 years with Vision Consultancy Group he was Managing Director of the joint venture of BBC Worldwide, Pearson Television and Cox of Atlanta for the distribution of the television channels BBC World and BBC Prime. Marcus was President of CMGI Europe from 1997 to 2001 driving AltaVista, Engage and other group companies towards a $100m turnover in Europe. During 2002 he directed the European sales strategy of OPLAYO, the Finnish invention which is the first to enable video across today's 2G networks to ordinary mobile phones.
Born in the USA, British national, M.A. in Physical Anthropology from Cambridge University, qualified private pilot, motor-racer, has lived in 7 countries, speaks German and French and lives with his family in the Chiltern Hills west of London.
Europe Online Investments S.A. is based in Luxembourg and is offering its “E-DSL via satellite” on the Astra and Eutelsat satellite systems.
The announcement of the strategic cooperation with BT follows announcements of other recent deals struck by Europe Online in the past weeks, including a major distribution deal with Kabel Deutschland enabling the major German cable network operator to provide broadband, DSL, and interactive services to its customers across Germany from one day to the next with a minimum of investment. Europe Online has recently consistently been placed number one in major consumer tests for satellite and cable DSL and Broadband in Germany, be it “Tomorrow, “ ”c’T”, “PC Praxis” or “Online Today”.
